DUNEDIN, June 11. Promise (June Hack Hurdles) and Francisco (Electric Stakes) were successful in the respective legs of the on-course double at Wingatui on Saturday. The combination paid £ll 17s 6d for £l. Both horses were favourites for a win with doubles betters.

Promise, the runner-up in the Otago Hurdles last Monday, galloped boldly throughout the June Hurdles to beat Grant, the second choice, by three lengths and a half. Francisco, an attractive Isaac of York colt trained by V D. Clutterbuck at Riccarton for Mrs L. K Page, drew out from his rivals to win the Electric Stakes easily. In the corresponding race on the the first day of the meeting he had almost fallen at the start.

Promise had the run of the June Hurdles race behind Brianbra. Five furlongs out Brianbra was half a length dear of Promise Vaper and Grant were next ahead of Royal Gothic, Coinalot and Pilot Danger in line. The res’ of the field was well beaten at this sta<»e Promise drew up to the leader after the penultimate fence and led by two lengths into the straight. At this stage Brianbra. Grant. Vaoer and Royal Gothic were the handiest of the others Promise completed his task in dashing style and easily beat Grant There were five lengths then to Vaoer. four lengths (o the weakening Brianbre and six lengths to fioval Gothic Pilot Dancer Coinalot Tarras. Mighty Robin. Surmine .and Vamoose followed at intervals.

Milord fell at the first fence. Master David fell near the mile and Arc Flight fell six and a half furlongs from home. W J. Klimeck. the rider of Master David, broke a shoulder. Electric Stakes Francisco scored a decisive win in the Electric Stakes after bein« well nlaced all the way. He made a smart beginning and ran ut> to disbute the pace with The Slug running to the half-mile Pahi, Natlin, Sir Athol. Amurna Palace Royal. Tom bob and Hiaway were closest of the others then.

Clutha Lady moved up to follow Hv at the half-mile, where Hone Heke. Home Game. Floral Note. Peter Prevail and Lecord were next, with Cross Grain improving Hv turned for home ahead of Clutha Lady. Cross Grain Hone Heke. and Floral Note. Cross Grain got within three-quarters of a length of Hv at the finish, with Hone Heke only half a neck away There was a length to Bardon and two lengths tn Home Game Lecord was next, ahead of Taiko and the favourite. Fourth Ou End Tampa scored her fourth win in succession in the Tainui Handicap, the hack sprin' but she had to work hard to hold the iightly-®ut>t>orted Madame Curie by a head A three-year-old filily by Callander. Tamna is trained by her owner. S. J C Breen at Gore She was ridden by G. W Wright. Tampa was ton-weisihit with 9-1. She followed Tocsin and Madame Curie in the early stages, where Waaf and Chattel were handy. Warrigail drifted to last.

W D Skelton moved Windvaile Lad uo from tenth at the half-mile into the lead near the furlong and he sustained his effort to hold Kumai by two lengths. Kumal’e performance was full of merit.
