(N.Z.P.A -Reuter—Copyright) CAPE TOWN, June 10 Standing before a full length portrait of the Queen, the Prime Minister of the South African Republic, Dr Verwoerd. today raised a glass of champagne and proposed a toast to “Her Britannic Majesty. Queen Elizabeth the Second.” Earlier he said that the ties of friendship that bound South Africa and Britain had not disappeared and he hoped they would never do so. Dr. Verwoerd proposed the toast at a reception held by Sir John Maud, the British Ambassador, to mark the Queen’s official birthday. The Prime Minister said he had attended “the special occasion in person as he wished to pay tribute to the Queen. “We wish her prosperity, happiness and everything of the best. I should like to convey to the people of the United Kingdom our wishes for continued prosperity, happiness and peace in the days to come.”
