SINGAPORE AVIATORS
N.Z. Men In Flying Club (London Correspondent of “The Press”) A sprinkling of the Royal New Zealand Air Force men, and about 40 Royal Air Force staff are members of the Royal Singapore Flying Club which recently won three out of four challenge cups in the annual allMalaya flying club rally. Among the many ground tradesmen who have taken up flying as a serious hobby is Leading Aircraftman R K. Hope, of Dunedin, a 24-year-old ground equipper in No. 75 Canberra Squadron He led the Singapore Club's Tiger Moth team which won the Dane Cup for navigation, spotting and forced landing tests. Many of the men are stationed in Tengah According to the Air Ministry information Division. Leading Aircraftman Hope thanks the R.A.F and the R.N.Z.AF. aircrews tor practical help. He has been flying for 16 months, and has registered 160 hours on six types of aircraft “There’s a real Commonwealth spirit at Tengah. Everyone helps if you are keen," he says. He hopes to get a commercial pilot’s licence. Ground tradesmen are reported to be very keen on flying and spend much spare cash on the sport.
