APPEAL FAILS
Struck Pregnant Wife (N 2 Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 9. Men who struck their wives in the last few days of pregnancy could expect little consideration even if drink was a factor in their assault, said Mr Justice T. A. Gresson- in. dismissing an appeal by Alfari Evan Main, aged 29. commercial fisherman, of Thames, against a four months’ gaol sentence for assault on his wife. “I am not at all sure, having regard to Main’s record of previous assaults, that had he come before me in the first instance I would not have passed sentence of six ponths,” said his Honour.
