Macleod, is Canterbury district vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Returned Services' Association, was a foundation member of the R.SA. in Christchurch and has served 25 terms at various times as president of the Rangiora association. He has the New Zealand R.S.A gold star badge. Mr Macleod who is 81 and chief of the Macleod Clan in New Zealand, was one of the original settiers in the Loburn orchard area and was president of .he Loburn Fruitgrowers' Association for 20 years He has had considerable local body experience. Detective Chief Inspector J. J. Halcrow retired from the Police Force recently His whole 35 years in the force were spent in Christchurch, and for most of the time he was a detective officer. He was in charge of 'he Criminal Investigation Branch when he retired. Wing Commander L. H. Edwards joined the Royal Air Force early in 1939 and was probably the first New Zealander to be taken prisoner by the Germans in World War H His aircraft was shot down two davs after the outbreak of the war. Lieutenant-Colonel R. E. Johnston is a Duntroon graduate who served in Fiji, the Middle East and Italy with the Second N.Z.E.F. and was seriously wounded. Since 1945 he has held staff and command appointments, and was recently appointed camp commandant at Burnham. Warrant Officer C. B. Fowler joined the Canterbury Regiment in May. 1911. as a rifleman and in 1912 transferred to the regimental band, of which he has been deputv bandmaster since June. 1953. Warrant Officer H. Preston has been chief cook at Burnham since 1958 He served in the Middle East and Japan.
