The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoakei arrived in Christchurch yesterday afternoon to speak in the Hurunui byelection campaign at Rangiora last evening. He will leave this afternoon for Invercargill to attend the annual meeting of the OtagoSouthland division of the National Party. Messrs L. G. Bedford and G. L. McLatchie have been appointed to the New Zealand Poultry Board and as members of the New Zealand Egg Marketing Authority for terms of two years from June 1. This is notified in the Gazette.—(P.A.) Mr J. H. Parker, present chairman of the Apple and Pear Marketing Board, has been appointed a member and chairman of the board for a further three-year term from Decmber 1, 1960. This is notified in the Gazette published yesterday. The present deputy chairman (Mr H. R. Sampson) is also reappointed for a three-year term from the same date.—(P.A.) Mr L. G. Wise, assistantD:strict Traffic Manager of Railways in Canterbury, will retire on Monday. Mr Wise joined the department as a oadet in Greymouth in 1921. and worked in every district m New Zealand before returning to Christchurch in 1958. Mr Wise’s position will be taken by Mr G H. Wilson, at present chief stationmaster in Christchurch. Mr D. J. Varcoe. relieving postmaster in the Christchurch district, who is at present acting postmaster at Kaiapoi, has been appointed postmaster at Te Arc. Wellington. He will leave for his new position about the end of the month. Messrs A. Horn. Welling-ton-West Coast ward; T M Fleming (Rangiora). South Island No 1 ward: and R J Irwin (Edendale). South Island No. 2 ward, were elected members of the New Zealand Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association council at the annual conference in Whangarei yesterday.—(PA)
