“U.K. Should Join E.E.C.”
(NZ.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) BONN, June 7, The West German Foreign Minister (Mr Heinrich von Brentano) said yesterday that Britain should join the European Common Market. Many European countries were waiting for the British decision, he told a closed meeting of Christian Democrat members of Parliament. Mr von Brentano said representatives of the Norwegian Government as well as the Danish Prime Minister (Mr Viggo Kampmann) had stated that they were hopeful about the possible entry of their countries into the Common Market.
He had heard similar statements from Irish leaders during his recent visit to the Irish Republic. “We understand the British attitude and we welcome the statement of Mr Heath (Mr Edward Heath, DeputyForeign Secretary) that London has abandoned the concept of the balance of power," Mr von Brentano said.
