CRAB APPLES take a lot of beating for winter colour. Some of the varieties raised in Christchurch have fruits with a very long life on the tree, for the birds don’t take them early. Jack Humm. or Robert Nairn—the plant illustrated—as well as some others will hold their fruit until July or even August.
