ROYAL OVERSEAS LEAGUE
Talk Given Music Circle The origins of the national anthems of different countries were outlined by Mr Keith Newson at a recent meeting of the Music Circle of the Royal Overseas League. Very few anthems had been composed by a citizen of the country that had adopted them, he said. Mr Newson also spoke about some personalities in the musical world whom he met during his recent trip abroad. The musical programme, which was arranged by Mr and Mrs Newson, included choruses by the Liedertafel Men's Choir conducted by Mr Newson, with soios by Mr Ray Hum. Items were given by a quartet which comprised Mr Newson and Dr. Basil Wilson (violin), Mrs Newson (’cello), and Mr Charles Martin (piano). Mrs L. R. de Roo presided, and the speaker and artists were thanked by Mrs M. E. Lyons.
