Police Shoot At Rioting Students
(N.Z. Press Association; SANTIAGO, (Chile), June 7. < Police fired on hundreds of students who rioted in Santiago last night. Four persons were reported to have been seriouslywounded. The rioting, during a twoday nationwide students’ strike, began when demonstrators began assaulting police in patrol cars, Associated Pi-ess said. Earlier, police had used tear gas. clubs and water hoses to scatter stone-throw-ing students. About 20 police were injured by the stones, and 38 youths were arrested. More trouble was expected today. Public school teachers have agreed to strike in
protest against the use of weapons by the police. Scores of innocent bystanders were drendied with hoses and grazed by swinging clubs last night. A.P. said. One photographer was seized and beaten after taking pictures of police battling with student demonstrators. The student.' are demanding that the Government reform what they call "old-fashioned" methods of >• education.
