Rotorua Man Beats Australian
(N Z. Press Association) UMARU, June 8 Tony Tyrer (Rotorua), with a 7ib weight advantage, won a split decision over Bod McRae (Australia) tn a professional middle-weight boxing contest over 10 rounds tn Timaru this evening. Mcßae proved an elusive target and offset Tyrer s heavier punching by skilful blocking and weaving. Tyrer tried hard to land a winning blow, but Mcßae offered no easy target. The last round raw a "grandstand” finish by both boxers, with honours fairly even. Tyrer was the aggressor for most of the bout, and thia probably won him the decision.
