Earthquakes.—Two earthquakes, one moderate and one small, occurred near Wellington on Wednesday night. No damage has been reported. The larger of the two earthquakes occurred al 12.29 a_m. yesterday and was centred 140 miles from Wellington. A reading of 5.2 on the'Richter scale which measures the magnitude’kt the point of the earthquake’s origin, was reported This reading indicated the size at the point of origin was moderate, said the Dominion seismologist (Dr. S. F. Evison) yesterday. Earthquakes of that size occurred between 10 and 20 times a year. —(P.A.)
