SPEEDING IN SUBURB
Two Men Fined (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 8. Allegations of two cars reaching speeds of 70 miles an hour in suburban streets, efforts to run drivers off the road, fist waving and an attempt to overtake in the Mount Victoria tunnel, were made in a traffic case before the Magistrate’s Court today. Before the Court were Timothy Keith de Castro, wool buyer, of Christchurch, and James William Moncrieff. garageman. The cases were heard separately but both men were charged with driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public, in connexion with the same offence. Mr J. A. Wicks, S.M„ heard both cases before entering a conviction although he said he was bound not to take into account previous evidence even if it had some bearing on his decision. Both defendants pleaded not guilty After hearing the cases. Mr Wicks convicted and fined de Castro £l5 and Moncrieff £7 10s. In both cases the charge was amended to exceeding 30 miles an hour. Mr M. H. Boys appeared for de Castro and Mr N. B. Sievwright for Moncrieff Mr B. Hunter prosecuted for the Wellington City Council
