EXEMPTED GOODS

Review Of List (NZ Press AssncMtten) NEW PLYMOUTH. June 8. The Minister of Labour (Mr Shand* intends to arrange for the list of exempted goods under the Shops and Offices Act. 1955. to be reviewed this year. The list was last examined when an exempted goods committee was set up about mid-1959, to hear evidence and s.bmiasions by interested organisations. Mr Shand said at New Plymouth today. The current list was issued in September of that year after consideration of the committee’s recommendations. “Although the present list appears to have met fairly general acceptance. and although I believe that it is desirable that the list of goods which may be sold outside normal shopping hours should not be changed too frequently, it is apparent from representations I have received that the time is approaching when the matter should again be examined,” the Minister said. It was proposed to arrange for this review to be under, taken in September when the present list will have been in operation tor two years. Mr Shand said the mem. bers of the commdttee to be set up in terms of the act and the dates on which the com-mitte? would sit to consider evidence and submissions would be announced later. “This advance announcement is made to ensure that 'the various organisations who may wish to appear before the exempted goods committee will have ample time to prepare their submissions.” said Mr Shand.
