ALGERIAN VIOLENCE
Bombings In Towns (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) ALGIERS, June 8 Insurgents threw “Molotov cocktail” fire bombs and opened fire with sub-machine guns at Orleansville, western Algeria, as a fresh wave of violence swept Algerian towns during the night. Heavy damage was caused by several plastic bomb explosions but no injuries were reported from any of the incidents. Four bombs exploded in Algiers—outside a restaurant, a cafe, a doctor’s surgery and under a parked car. Thirty miles away at Castiglione, an office was severely damaged. A shoe shop was shattered by a blast at Oran, western Algeria. Earlier, four people died in shooting incidents. The bodies of a European man and woman were found in a bullet-riddled car at Orleansville, while in Constantine, eastern Algeria, a French officer was shot dead and a Moslem was killed. General Charles Aillert. who pressed the button setting off France's first atomic blast in the Sahara in February last year, yesterday became the new Commander-in-Chief in Algeria. His appointment was announced after a Cabinet meeting. He succeeds General Fernand Gambiez, who was captured by the rebel generals during the abortive revolt last April.
