Farewell Jazz Concert
A jazz concert in the Civic Theatre tomorrow night will mark the final appearance in the city of the well-known Christchurch jazz pianist “Chuck” Fowler, who will leave soon for the United States to take up a scholarship at the Berkeley School of Music in Boston. Mr Fowler will lead his big band and his octet at the concert and many other local artists will appear on the programme, which is sponsored by the Christchurch Jazz Society. Because Fowler’s scholarship is for a limited amount and he will not be able to work in the United States, the society will give the proceeds of the concert towards his expenses.
