Table Tennis Leaders Have Further Wins In Fourth Round

The three leading teams. Eagles Selwyn and Wallabies 11, all recorded further victories when the fourth round of matches in the Canterbury Table Tennis Association A grade competitions was played last evening. Eagles is still the only unbeaten team.

Eagles beat Wallabies I by seven matches to five, in an entertaining contest. J. Armstrong conceded only a handful of points in each game, but D. V. Fisher and Mrs J Shadbolt found the opposition stronger than usual. R. G. Hart and K. J. Cassidy each won two singles for Wallabies I. and that team won five singles to four. Better doubles combination gave Eagles its victory. Wallabies II beat University I by eight matches to four, but this could easily

have been a much closer contest. N. B. Radford, whose form this season has been outstanding, won his five matches for Wallabies n, hitting very hard on both backhand and forehand in all his matches. He was not extended in his three singles

K. V. Stevenson < Wallabies II) and D. D. M. Stewart (University I) both showed better form to win two singles matches each. M. A. Cox won one singles for Wallabies, beating J. Atvars in a long match. Wallabies won two of the three doubles. Selwyn I was untroubled to beat University II and T. R. D. Flint, like Armstrong and Radford, had a very easy evening. H. P. Holt showed the best form of the University players, winning a singles and a doubles, and again taking V. N. Brightwell to three games in their singles. He hit very’ hard when the occasion presented itself, and his defence was very steady. Points after four rounds are: Eagles 8 Selwvn 6. Wallabies II 6. Wallabies I 2. University II 2.
