Baluba Police Clash With Ghanaian Force

LEOPOLDVILLE. May 27. Ghanaian United Nations troops killed four of Mr Albert Kaionji’s Baluba gendarmes in a clash at Lake Nokambo. in the Congo, the United Nations reported today There were no Ghanaian casualties. the Associated Press said. The incident in the disputed northern border area of Mr Kaionji’s diamondrich State of South Kasai came as the Coquilhatville conference of Congolese politicians called on the central Government to declare a state of emergency in the region. between Balubas and Luluas —traditional enemies has recently erunted in the area The Coquilhatville conference. which is being attended by Mr Kalonji. called for an end to all troop movements in the North and South Kasai frontiers and for the creation of neutral sones patrolled by United Nations soldiers. The Mokambo shooting was renorted to have occurred when a unit of Mr Kaionji’s gendarmes tried to interfere with a group of Lulua workmen at the local airport.
The Ghanaians went to the Lulva’s assistance and the gendarmes opened fire. The fire was returned by the Ghanaians.
