MORE WHEAT
In Ute view of Mr W. V. Hadfield, assistant fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, Canterbury could increase its wheat acreage by more than half without any decline in sheep numbers. With 30 per cent, of high fertility cropping land in crop, up to 20 par cent, of medium cropping land and on average around 7 per cent, of improved light land. Mr Hadfield calculates that there could be 300,000 acres in crop in Canterbury of which about 185,000 acres would be in wheat.
