(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE (Californial. May 25. The American X-15 rocket aircraft t-Ot'ny flew faster than any other winged aircraft. With an Air Force test pilot, J. Walker, at the controls, the plane recorded 3370 miles an hour—almost a mile a second —high above the Californian desert. The flight is part of a series in which the rocket aeroplane’s speed and altitude are being gradually stepped up towards goals of a speed of 4000 miles an hour and an altitude of 100 miles.
