Gun Battle In Streets (N ZJ’.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, May 26. Paris police fought two street battles with Algerian gunmen during the night. From Algeria itself came news of clashes between police and right-wing settlers in Oran for the third night running. The main Paris battle began when a group of Algerians attacked a patrol of Moslem police auxiliaries in a side street near the famous Pigalle entertainment area. As the gun duel started, one passing motorist was injured and several cars were hit by bullets. The retreating Algerians threw hand grenades which injured three bystanders, one a 12-year-old boy Two of the police patrol were injured and one attacker captured. The rest eluded a big police hunt. At the same time, police in southern Paris exehanged shots with another group of Algerian Moslems. Two were arrested after a chase. In Oran, Western Algeria, riot police used tear gas to disperse anti-Gaullist demonstrators. Hundreds of windows were smashed and three Moslem shops were destroyed Europeans who tried to help a Moslem baker whose shop was being burned were in turn atoned by demonstrators.
