SHORTAGE OF ARCHITECTS

Bursary Wanted For Recruitment

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 28

The New Zealand Educational Officers’ Association will press the Department of Education for urgent consideration of its request for bursaries to help in the recruitment of architects for education boards throughout the country. The annual conference of the association was held yesterday and today representatives of all the 10 boards in the country were present. The chairman. Mr R. J. Crawford, of Hamilton, said today that there had been a desperate shortage of architects for some years. The association had made representations to the department as long ago as 1956 for the implementation of a bursary scheme that would help its recruitment and retention of architects.

Since then repeated approaches had been made with no effect but this year's conference had been informed that the details of a scheme had at last been complete and were ready for the Cabinet approval.
