BRITAIN AND THE SIX

“N.Z. Could Suffer’

( N .Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright)

LONDON. May 24. Britain’s association with the Common Market could have serious consequences for New Zealand, unless provision is made to give New Zealand compensating advantages in Western Europe, the Scottish independent newspaper “The Scotsman,” said today.

The problem of reconciling Britain's association with the Six with its obligations to the Commonwealth bristled with difficulties, said the newspaper.

“As great difficulties concern the main members of the Commonwealth, a complete elimination of tariffs on imports from the six Western European countries would mean that Britain would discriminate against imports of manufactured goods from Canada. “How can this difficulty be met? Will the Six be willing to' agree to quota arrangements between Britain and Canada””
