GARDEN HELP FOR ELDERLY
Co-ordination Of Work Planned
Providing help for elderly persons in their gardens and grounds will be reviewed by the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council in association with several community groups which have set up a committee. Organisations represented on the committee are St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Christchurch Junior Council, the Christchurch Round Table Number One. the Christchurch Junior Chamber, the Fendalton Rangers’ Troop, and the welfare council. The secretary of the’ welfare council (Mrs M. E. Lawrie) said yesterday that although the committee would be responsible for coordinating the work, the problems of individual elderly persons would be channelled through their church or local organisations. There would, however, be a large number of persons for whom alternative assistance would have to be found.
There were undoubtedly many persons with time to spare who could assist in this work, said Mrs Lawrie. She said they should get in touch with the welfare council giving their district and the time they were prepared to work.
