U.S. GOLF DISPUTE
Warning To Memphis
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright)
NEW YORK. May 21 The chairman of President Kennedy's p>eople-to-people sports committee (Colonel Eddie Eagan) warned officials of the Memphis open golf tournament today that interference with the conflicting international golf championships would “reflect discredit on the United States and its sports tradition.
“This would require our committee to consider such action as might be necessary to ensure the elimination of such interference in the future,” he said.
Memphis officials have demanded the appearance in their tournament of the United States open champion, A. Palmer, G. Player (South Africa), and Canada’s S. Leonard under the terms of a blanket contract with the Professional Golfers’ Association.
