Hurunui
Sir, —Surely “Voter” has not forgotten the chaotic financial mess created by a previous National Government, with its policy of open markets and. greed, which was the direct cause of the Labour Government having to tax severely to restore financial order. The Labour Government borrowed and repaid an Australian loan and also before it was due repaid an American loan: then immediately relent this loan to America at a higher interest rate. The Americans openly respect Mr Nash's financial ability. As for “sob stuff” which “Voter” speaks of, Mr Nash is a Christian in thought and deed and, unlike many people, does not give lip service to New Testament teachings and then suggest rescinding milk for schoolchildren, money for crippled children, or homes for people. While the march of time will relegate the Nationalists’ policy to the dust bins, Labour’s spiritually inspired policy will march on to eternity.—Yours, etc., HURUNUI. May 22, 1961.
