REGISTRATION OF POULTRY
Appeal By Board Chairman
An appeal to all poultrykeepers to register their runs next month was made yesterday by Mr G. U McLatchie. chairman of the New Zealand Poultry Board. He said the board w'ould like to make sure all centres were fully supplied with eggs at all times, but was hampered to some extent by paucity of information about flock numbers and their location, so that future production trends were difficult to assess.
Under the Poultry Runs Registration Act, 1933. all poultryfarmers with 25 or more hens or ducks who sell or offer to sell eggs, are required to register their runs for the 1981-1962 year within one month of June 1. This has to be done in June, otherwise poultry - keepers make themselves open to prosecution and. if convicted, liable for an added weekly penalty as defined in the act. Mr McLatchie said the board did not like pursuing this course but it had, in the past, found it necessary to prosecute, and would continue to do so. against defaulting or tardy poultrykeepers.
