May 18 Master Ascot gave a most impressive display of jumping over the steeplechase fences at Wiogatui this morning and he will make a welcome addition to the ranks of cross country runners th.s winter. A half-brother by Massowa to the Royal Auckland Cup winner. Coaltown, Master Ascot has won only one race on the flat, but he more than paid his way as a hurdle He cleared hack class in th; ; role at the Dunedin sprint meeting when he mastered 10-1 to win the Wakari Hurdles. Yesterday he cleared s x fences in near perfect fash and was well handled by t; stable apprentice, S. J. Diack Diack has a good record for the few rides he has had on the flat. Increasing weight has made it more difficult f ■ him to secure mounts, but he appears to have a future as a rider of jumpers. Master Ascot is trained b’-' his breeder. C. H.
