Moon Boy In Sound Trial At Addington

Moon Boy gave a brilliant display of trotting to win his race at trials held yesterday at Addington by the Canterbury' Trotting Owners’ and Breeders’ Association.

Moon Boy was having his first run in public since February and he showed that he had made great progress in his preparation for the Members’ Handicap at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s winter meeting tomorrow week.

Moon Boy started from 36 yards yesterday and made a safe but slow beginning for D J. Townley. He gradually improved and raced three wide over the last half-mile to be wide out behind Dianthus Girl, Van Cheetah. Chances Are, With You, and Au Fait racing to the straight. Merry Nora, Coronet Lass and Spinster Scott were close up just behind them. Moon Boy and Au Fait drew out to a short lead inside the furiong and both horses finished full of running, with Moon Boy winning by a head. Moon Boy will be one of the favourites for next week’s race. Au Fait trotted her usual solid race and is certain to give a good account of herself in the Canterbury Park race. Spinster Scott came home strongly for third a length and a half back. She looks to have done well lately and will be a sound place prospect next week. Merry Nora was not knocked about to finish fourth. N. L. Berkett has her ready to extend her already sound record at short notice. Welburn trotted a sound race for a horse in his class to finish a close fifth after leading early. He shaded Coronet Lass, which made up ground. With You, Reprimand and Chances Are. with Dianthus Girl next. Reprimand was the onlyhorse to break in the first two furlongs. He broke twice, the second time when he was not properly balanced. Fallacious broke with two furlongs left when the pace went on. The others trotted faultlessly. Moon Boy trotted the 13 furlongs in 3min 32 l-ssec. the last half-mile in Imin 3 3-ssec. and the final quarter |in 31 2-ssec. Free-For-All Meadow Scott showed something of his true form when he won the first heat of the free-for-all. taking 3min 32 4-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 3sec, and the last quarter in 31sec. Meadow Scott received a good run on the inside all the way and when asked for an effort in the straight he quickly mastered the pacemaker Gay Baron, and beat him by a rapidlywidening margin of a length and a half. Gay Baron held off Sextant, which finished well and looks a likely improver, by a length for second, with Raven Dew. which had trouble working clear, a good fourth followed by Florita, O’Dearo and Aldora. Glenoware made almost all the pace and ran out a decisive winner in the second heat, recording 3min 30sec, the last, half-mile in Imin 3sec, and the final quarter in 31 l-ssec. Glenoware looks ready to win again at short notice and will have prospects at Addington next week.

Mary Mavis finished solidly for second, two lengths in front of Super Attack, with Bonnie Lustre next. Ruling Caste held off a fastfinisher in Dieman Lad by half a length in the first heat of the two-year-old parade. She took 2min 48sec for the 10 furlongs, the last halfmile in Imin 4sec, and the last quarter in 32sec. Both look to be capable pacers. Swietenia battled on for third, just ahead of a Flying Song—Castile gelding, with a gap to Thunder Fair. The pace was slack in the second heat, which was won by a half-sister by Stormyway to Ordeal trained by A. W. Stack. This filly was well back most of the way, but finished with a great burst, taking 2min 56 l-ssec for the 10 furlongs, *he last half-mile in Imin 4 4-ssec, and the final quarter in 31 2-ssec. Thermal was second, ahead of Early Star and the pacemaker Asian Queen. First Song Wins First Song, a good fourth over 10 furlongs at Oamaru last week, confirmed that effort with a win in the first heat of the 3min 45sec class pace. He took the lead at the end of half a mile and ran on strongly to win by a length after taking 3min 36 sec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 3 4-5 sec, and the last quarter in 31 4-ssec. First Song will have prospects in the May Handicap at Washdyke tomorrow. Local Princess ran on for second without being asked for a serious effort, followed by Vanese and Velvet Drive, well clear of Utoss, which broke at the start, and Real Dieman. Sierra Madre gave a dashing display to win the second heat, taking 3min 39 l-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 2 l-ssec, and the last quarter in 31 1-5 sec. Sierra Madre is overdue for a win. lileas came home solidly for second, ahead of Royal Prince, Sandyfield and Lucks Way. Lyrical was impressive when she won the second heat of the 3min 56sec class pace, recording 3min 38 2-5 sec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 4 3-5 sec. Anahera paced a useful race for second, ahead of Dieman Bill, Runfree. Special Guest and Lucky Helen. Lakeda outfinished her rivals in the first heat, recording 3min 38 3-ssec, the last half-mile in Imin 5 2-5 sec. Paul Bunyan battled on for second, ahead of Rosalind Globe, Diemanite, Yarrabee Park and Frogman. Quinharold took 3min 39 l-ssee when he won the third heat, the last half-mile in Imin 6sec. Southern Cross, which started from 48 yards, was a good second, followed by Tryall, Semi Circle and QuaDtrill. Tracey’s Pal led all the way and won the 3min 53sec class trot, recording 3min 43 2-5 sec for the 13 furlongs, the

last half-mile in Imin 6sec. Ebony King was a useful second, followed by Superway, Gleaning. Huntingdon and Pohutukawa. Our Own was next, failing to show as much dash as expected.
