ACT GENERAL: The Orchard Investigations Section is currently concerned with the observasation. Identification, collection and sampling of orchard arthropods and the application of various experimental treatments. At present, attention is being given to codlin moth with the object of assessing the value of selective insecticides and also of making fuller use of natural control factors. It is intended that the investigations should later be extended to other pests and other fruits. DUTIES: To assist in the planning and interpretation of field and laboratory experiments. including assistance in the organisation, supervision and implementation of the experiments. The ‘appointee will also be expected to take charge of investigational projects within the framework of the Section’s activities. QUALIFICATIONS: University degree in Science or Agricultural Science, preferably with Entomology as a major subject or with training to full professional status in Horticulture, or equivalent qualifications. Whatever training is possessed, a knowledge of, or experience in, horticulture, preferably in pomology, would be advantageous although not essential.
