Another Man Arrested
IN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 8. Police today ■ arrested a second man in connexion with Saturday night's £2496 T.A.B. robbery in Tinakore road. They also recovered most of the balance of the stolen money. He will appear in the Magistrate’s Court. Wellington, tomorrow morning to be charged with armed robbery.
Two masked men entered the agency soon before 8.30 p.m. on Saturday and, threatening the manager, Mr H. K. Kelleher, with an iron pipe, stole £2498 in bank notes.
William Marice Corcoran, aged 29, a workman, was arrested at his home later in the evening and appeared to face armed robbery charges in the Court this morning. Police arrested the second man in the city at 3.30 p.m. today after a search by all available police staff throughout the day. More than 30 men were assigned to the job. Banks and shops were circularised in an attempt to trace the remaining £l4OO.
Later in the afternoon, detectives went to an outer suburban house and recovered almost £l2OO wrapped In newspaper and hidden beneath a gorse bush. When he appeared today, Corcoran was remanded by Mr J. B. Thomson, S.M., to May 15. No plea was entered by Corcoran, who was represented by Mr G. C. Kent. An application for bail was heard in chambers but was refused.
