New Service From City In November

Some bookings had already been received for seats on a new air route between Christchurch and Te Anau which would come into operation on November 7, said Mr H. Wigley, the managing director of the airline which will operate the flights. Mount Cook Air Services, Ltd., in Timaru yesterday. Mr Wigley said already most of the Initial difficulties had been resolved and the company had no doubt about its ability to begin the three-days-a-week service on the date advertised. The flights will be made in a modernised DC3 aircraift, negotiations for which have been completed between the company and the National Airways Corporation in recent weeks. “Delivery of the aircraft is not expected until just before the beginning of operations,” said Mr Wigley. "It is expected to become a daily service in its second season and then we will need more aircraft,” he said. The flights will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and will operate by way of Christchurch, Mount Cook, Queenstown and Te Anau. The route is intended to give passengers a bird’s-eye view of the main alpine and lakeland attractions. A single fare between the two terminals is £7 12s and a return fare £l5 fe. The cheapest part of the flight is between Queenstown and Te Anau, which costs £1 12s 6d. All the flights will connect with those of N.A.C.
