CANTERBURY W.D.F.F.

Welfare Activity During Year

Another successful year for branches and the executive is recorded in the annual report of the Canterbury provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers.

During the year, this section of the division contributed substantially towards help for the aged and besides subscribing more than £407 to &is cause, branches have been responsible for persons joining the Aged Welfare Council as members. Help with letter-writing, messages, shopping, outings and supplying coal to needy elderly folk, has been given. There have been gifts to old people’s homes and flowers and cakes for old folk in the area.

The provincial president (Mrs J. Blamires) has represented the Canterbury W.D.FF. at the inter-provincial conference, the openftig of the North Canterbury Federated Farmers’ conference and at many meetings of outside organisations in Canterbury. The co-ordinating committee reports good attendance in adult classes of floral art. cake icing, cooking, interior decorating and dressmaking*

More helpers are needed for the housekeeper service and there were many cases that could have been helped if there had been more to do this work.

Branch reports showed that members had assisted with Crippled Children. C.0.R.5.0., After Care, Templeton Hospital, and sponsoring children through the Save the Children Fund.
