“Outstanding Event Of Year” The outstanding event in the Arthur’s Pass township in the last year was the formation of the Arthur's Pass Association, said the annual report of the Arthur's Pass National Park Board adopted by a meeting of the board yesterday. “Its membership comprises the few permanent residents and a majority of lessees who have holiday cottages in the area. The association's prime object is to combine on matters affecting the common interests of about 120 ratepayers in the township. “This move is welcomed by the board, as it may mean some relief from involvement in matters which ara more properly a county council responsibility,” he said. “A complete herbarium collection of plants found within the park is well under way. Materials for the library section are being acquired, and showcases for bird displays are nearing completion,” he said. “The Railways Department has promised to assist with a display telling the story of the Otira tunnel. “Associated with the museum is an alpine garden, and this is being coompletely reconstructed, but progress is unavoidably slow. The heavy equipment required to move many tons of filling and rock’ depends on contractors who come to the area irregularly." he said. .
