NEW HOUSING AREA
Work Begun On Site Earth-moving and road construction work has begun on the 120-acre block in Hoon Hay being developed by the Housing Division of the Ministry of Works to provide 558 building sections. About 70.000 cubic yards of earth is being moved to prepare the area for housing and three miles and a quarter of reading is to be provided in the block.
The Ministry of Works is doing the work, hiring big earth-moving machines and other equipment. Tenders have been called for construction of stormwater drainage in the area, to proceed ahead or with road construction, and it is expected that a tender will be called for sanitary sewer reticulation within the next few weeks. The block. Which is bounded on the north-west by Halswell road and on the south-west by Henderson road, will provide four acres of shop sites and parking and 10 acres for reserves.
It is not expected that actual building will begin until about two years from now.
