METHVEN SHOW

Entries A Record Entries for the Methven show this Saturday are at a record level—they beat the 1959 figure of 3558 entries by one entry—but the main sections for sheep, horses and ponies have shown substantial increases. In former years the show has clashed with the Hawarden show but this year it is being held a week later. Directly reflecting this is the rise in horse and pony entries from 614 last year to 713 this year. This makes the show one of the largest for ring events and many of the province’s top • riders and mounts will be taking part. F.E.I. events are included. Sheep entries have risen from 498 to 545 as a result of increased support from Ashburton County stud breeders. Cattle numbers are up to 60 head, as against 44 last year. A new section for pigs has been added to the catalogue and has attracted 22 entries and 47 dogs will be competing in the dog trials. Two of the attractions which will be featured at the show will be a display of shearing by Godfrey Bowen and steer riding competitions.
