S.P.C.A.
Sir.—As a lover of animals I have been greatly disturbed to hear that the S.P.C.A. is likely to be forced out of existence through lack of finance. Animals have no social security: nor can they apply to an Arbitration Court. Yet they have served humanity throughout the centuries. This is particularly so in New Zealand where almost our entire prosperity has been built on production by animals. Have we forgotten this? The S.P.C.A. does nil it can to care for all animals which, by some mischance, lose the protection of their owners. The membership of the society is only a very small proportion of the people who have benefited in many ways from animals. I write for those who cannot appeal for themselves. not only to you, sir. but to any and all who remember the pleasure, the joy and the love animals have brought to them that they join with me in helping to put their only society on a firm financial footing Yours, etc., ONE WHO REMEMBERS. March 21. 1961.
