Income Tax
Sir, —It was reported in “The Press” on March 15 that a tax evader failed to account for £2091 Ils income over a 10-year period and the deficient tax was £l6BO 6s 4d. The Inland Revenue Department claimed roughly four-fifths of the income. Could that be right? Or did that little extra each year put the taxpayer in a different or higher tax group? If the latter is the case he would have been better off to leave a paddock in weeds and the nation a little poorer. —Yours, etc., PUZZLED. March 17, 1961.
