Trap Shooting CANTERBURY TITLES
F. Kelly Wins Skeet Shoot F. E. Kelly, of Temuka. won the provincial skeet championship with a possible of 25 at the Canterbury clay bird championships today. Kelly, the only shooter to gain a possible, was presented with the Marston trophy. The weather was perfect for shooting at the Belfast Gun Club's grounds. There was a good attendance. The runner-up for the championship was G. Read, of Methven. who scored a 24 in the shoot-off Horn C. Booker. B. G. Eegg. J. Berr\. S. G. Holmes, and L. Eden, all with 23. The high standard of shouting indicated Canterbury has a strong team to take part in the New Zealand championships in Hamilton next week - Kelly was also top scorer in the five-man match, held in conjunction with the skeet championship The winning team. Timaru. gained a total of 114 It comprised W. A Lewis 21. F. E. Kellv 25. R. G Allan 22. G. Read 23. S. G Holmes 23. Read and Holmes, both from Methven. shot for Timaru in this event. Christchurch was runner-up. In the two-man team shoot. Timaru (Kelly 25. Lewis 21) tied with Meth ven (Read 23. Holmes 23) for first place, with 46 each. There were seven entries. There were 45 entries in the provincial sparrow clay target championship. Four shooters gained a possible of the five birds. They were A W. Fraser, Read. J. Berry, and D. Nicholas. Nicholas won the shootoff. with Berry runner-up. After the championships there was a series of sweep shoots, which attracted good entries. Tlie title events will be held today. These include the double rise championship of 20 birds and the provincial single-rise championship of 25 birds at 18 yards.
