N.Z. Horse Third (fi.ZP.A .-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY. March 19. The New Zealand colt Commanding finished four lengths behind the second place-getter. Young Brolga. in the six-furlong Golden Slipper Stakes at RosehiU yesterday, but the colt was not disgraced. Commanding, well fancied at 5 to 2 and 9 to 4. began well, but from the outside of the nine starters the jockey. A. Mulley. was unable to get him across to the rails at any stage of the race. The race was won by Magic Night, with an amazing sprint to finish ahead of Young Brolga. Magic Night is a filly by Star Kingdom (imp.) from Betrothed. She maintained an amazing record for the stock of Star Kingdom (imp.), the top sire in Australia. Five Golden Slipper Stakes have been decided, and two-year-olds by Star Kingdom have won them all. The previous winners were Todman. Skyline. Fine and Dandy, and Sky High. Star Kingdom (imp.) stands at Barramui Stud, and was leading sire of two-year-olds the first time he had runners. He has been the top sire of two-year-olds ever since, with each of his five crops. The New Zealand stayer Oreka. having his first run in Australia, gave an impressive performance to finish third in the nine-ftirlong weight-for-age Rawson Stakes. As expected the race was won by Wenona Girl, with Bardshah two and a half lengths behind. Oreka, a candidate for the Sydney Cup. was half a length further back. Wenona Girl quickly forced her way through at the home turn, raced to the front, and was untroubled over the closing stages. Her owner. Mr W.
