SUNDAY GAMES
Recognition By N.Z.F.A. (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 19. Sunday Soccer is to be officially recognised in New Zealand, but it is to be left to local football associations whether they run it or not. The New Zealand Football Association decided this at its annual meeting yesterday. The chairman of the council of the association (Mr J. Kershaw) said that a few months ago the council went on record in favour of Sunday football. In Wellington there were at least two theatres open for. profit on Sundays. Soccer was a good healthy sport. “Let us be the first major sport in New Zealand to adopt this in our constitution,” he said. The association should cash in on the many spectators who wanted to be entertained on Sundays. Mr T. G. Wells (Wellington) said Sunday football would raise many problems for associations and clubs. Most speakers said Sunday football was played extensively already and the question was whether it should be made legal. A motion by Mr S M. Thomson (Manawatu) that Sunday football be recognised but it be left to individual associations whether or not they controlled it was carried on the voices.
