“Repairing Split” (N.Z Press Assn. —Copyrtphtl LONDON, March 19. The Queen may tour Australia again soon, two British newspapers reported today. The “News of the World" said the tour was planned “in the spring of 1962.” It was one of a new series of overseas visits in the next two years to help “repair the gap in the Commonwealth” caused by South Africa’s withdrawal. No official comment was immediately available either from Buckingham Palace or Australian officials in London. The “Sunday Pictorial” said the Australian tour was being planned by the Queen's advisers as a goodwill gesture towards white members of the Commonwealth. It was aimed at easing Commonwealth tension over South Africa’s action. Australia already had been warned that she might be the next white Commonwealth country to come under fire because of her “white Australia” policy, the newspaper said. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were due to visit two African Commonwealth members. Ghana and Sierra Leone, late this year A Royal tour of Australia, it was felt, would help Jo “keep the balance.”
