AUCKLAND, March 19. B. A. Magee today became the first place-getter in the history of the Olympic marathon to take a hat-trick at cricket. He may even be the first “hat-tricker” in
cricket history to perform the feat after participating in a 22-mile run. Magee was performing both as a runner and cricketer in the colours of the Auckland Marathon Club. By way of an outing, club members arranged to run from Mercer to Huntly be-
fore playing members of the Huntly Amateur AthleticClub at cricket. At Huntly. the marathon men set about the task of the day carefully and methodically. W. D. Baillie knocked up a sturdy 12 but the Marathon total of 106 seemea modest enough and when the former Auckland 3000 metres Ronerton, briskly scored 27 Huntly hopes were strong. Magee was the wrecker. Bowling right-arm, mediumpace, he bowled one man and then another. Six wickets he took, at a cost of only eight runs in all. Huntly total reached 87 This is the largest total ever made by a team batting against an Olympic marathon place-getter who has been successful with the hattrick. Truly a day of records.
