UNIVERSITY SALARIES

Small Group Gets Increase (N Z Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 2. The Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) announced tonight that the Cabinet had approved salary scales increases for a small group of university staff. “When the previous Government announced its decision about the salaries of registrars. librarians, and liaison officers in the universities and agricultural colleges last October, the university councils and the University Grants Committee asked that the decision be reconsidered, and the Prime Minister at that time promised a review of the matter early in the New Year,” said Mr Tennent. “The new Government has undertaken that review, and has decided to accept the recommendations of the University Grants Committee. This means that the university councils will be able to pay their registrars, librarians and liaison officers salaries up to certain limits now agreed on between the Government and the Grants Committee.

"This will clear up a point that has caused concern in the universities and agricultural colleges over the last few months.” said Mr Tennent.
