PRODUCTION OF WESTERNS
TV Producer Urges Retter fylots
(N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 19. A producer of television western shows has warned his fellow “horse opera” makers that the public is tired of stereotyped “shoot-’em-ups,” United Press International reported today. “I think people will quit watching westerns if they’re not given better stories,” the producer. Mr Joe Dackow. claimed. “The time has come when you have to produce good stories.” Mr Dackow said that the hero concept was a handy excuse to evade reasonable story telling. “When you don’t have good stories, you need the handsome hero. Some western plots and situations are becoming cliches to the public,” he said. “I think television is becoming dull because we’re not making it exciting for viewers,” he said. “And the way to do this is to give them something to get excited about."
