DEVELOPMENT OF HORNBY
Commercial Centre
Proposed
Proposals for the development of a major commercial centre in Hornby, on the south-west side of the railway crossing, have already been put in train by the Hornby County Town Committee. Visualising a great population increase in Hornby and beyond in the next few years, the county town committee has put forward proposals for a sizeable commercial square in the centre of Hornby, on the south-west side of the railway crossing, and has sought the advice of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority and the Paparua County Council’s, engineer (Mr A. Dyhrberg) on certain details of the plan. The aim is to develop a commercial centre in the form of a hollow square, the open side facing the Main South road. Shops and other commercial buildings will be built down both sides of the square from the Main South road and across its depth. It is proposed that the centre of the square will provide parking facilities for vehicles.
