(N.Z Press Assn —Continent) MEXICO CITY. Feb. 19 R. Emerson won the Pan American tennis tournament today when he beat R. Laver. 4-6. 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
The two Australians fought out the final before a crowd of 4000 at the Chapultepec Sports Centre.
Laver offered real opposition in the first sets, but later showed signs of tiredness. He played for six hours yesterday to reach the finals of the singles and the doubles. Emerson and Laver teamed to win the doubles final today. They took the championship, beating P. Darmbn (France) and W. Knight (England), 15-13, 6-1, 6-2. The two Australians gave a wonderful display of teamwork and physical endurance.
