Exchange Rates
The South African rand, which officially replaced the £ last Tuesday, is now quoted among the overseas exchanges. Yesterday’s buying rate was 2.0060 rands to the £N.Z.I, compared with £N.Z.99 14s to £SJL. on February 13. North American and most Continental currencies gained on the £ last week. The £ lost nearly i cent to the Canadian dollar and } cent to the United States dollar. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows: New York: buying. 2,7949 dollars to £N.Z.I (compared with 2.7572 dollars on February 13); selling, 2.7633 dollars (2.7655), Montreal: 2.7647 dollars (2.7692); 2.7289 dollars (2.7334). Austria: 73.06 schillings (73.09): 71.58 schillings (71-61). _ Belgium: 141.72 francs (141.82); 137.20 francs (137.30). France: 13.82 .francs (13.83): 13.43 francs (13.44). Japan: 1006 yen (1007): 983 yen Netherlands: .10.69 guilders (10.68); 10.44 guilders (10.43). Sweden: 14.57 crowns (14.58); 14.23 crowns (14.24). Switzerland: 12.11 francs (12.10): 11.88 francs (11.86). Western Germany: DM11.68 (same): DM11.44 (11.45).
