Cost Put At £BO,OOO
When completed, Canterbury Court, a joint building enterprise at the Addington Show Grounds of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association and Manufacturers’ Association, will have cost £BO.OOO, said a report to last evening’s meeting of'the council of the manufacturers.
Work on the building was nearly completion, reported Mr J. R. Maddren and facilities to bring the exhibition building into line with overseas exhibition halls would cost about £20,000.
Nearly one acre and a-half of display space would be available to exhibitors at the Industries Fair in the building, he reported. From the interest being shown by manufacturers, the fair would be comparable in size, number of working exhibits and entertainment with the centennial year fair. To obtain top line entertainment, the secretarymanager (Mr R. T. Alston) would visit Sydney next month. Mr Alston would also arrange for leading Australian axemen to compete in the wood chopping at the fair. Arrangements bad been completed for Mr John Maybury, son of the late Mr Jack Maybury, to be compere at entertainment, reported Mr Maddren. A former 3ZB announcer, Mr Maybury has been working on television and radio in Australia. Among the special sections planned for the fair was one showing New Zealandassembled cars and the growth of the motor component parts industry in the Dominion, said the report.
