Topdressing Pilot Injured
* <N.Z. press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Feb. 20. A topdressing pilot, Barry Rankin, ageo 21, of 65 Wick- - steed street, Wanganui, suffered a compound fracture of the leg when his plane crashed while taking off from the Mahoenui station airstrip at 10 50 a m. today. Employed by Panners’ Aviation. Ltd.. Hawera. Mr Rankin was flying one of two planes working on the Mahoenui station. The plane failed to rise in a 4°wn wind, struck a hill, > and cartwheeled over. Mr Rankin was pinned underneath. The plane was wrecked.
Grant of £l6^-A grant of £JO was made to the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council by the Lyttelton Borough Council last evening.
